About
This is an archive of things that stopped being made. Every entry has a launch date, an end date, an exact lifespan, a cause of death, and at least two independent sources.
What counts
A thing qualifies if it was publicly produced, sold, offered, or officially designated; if it no longer is; and if its end date can be sourced. That last condition does most of the work. Plenty of interesting things are missing here purely because nobody wrote down when they ended.
Not included: people, one-off events, things that never launched publicly, individual retail locations, individual films or albums, and anything still sold somewhere in the world.
On dates
Death dates are frequently ambiguous, and inventing precision would make the whole archive worthless. Every date here is stored with an explicit precision, and lifespans built from fuzzy dates are always reported as approximate. If a page says c. 1990, that is the honest answer and not a placeholder.
On causes
Each entry gets exactly one cause of death, and it is the proximate one. Almost everything is ultimately killed by indifference; the interesting question is what actually pulled the trigger.
Corrections
Some of this is wrong. Archives of this kind always are, and the only useful response is to be easy to correct. If you can point at a better source, please do.
