ITT Technical Institute

- Cause of death
- Killed by regulation
ITT closed all 136 campuses on September 6, 2016, twelve days after the Department of Education barred it from enrolling new students who rely on federal aid.
ITT Educational Services had run career programs under the ITT Technical Institute name since 1969, funded almost entirely by federal student aid. On August 25, 2016 the Department of Education cut off that supply, banning new federally funded enrollments and tightening cash requirements. Twelve days later the company shut all 136 campuses across 38 states at once, leaving roughly 35,000 enrolled students with nowhere to finish, and announced it would cease operations entirely effective September 16.
