Round Hill Investments, which had bought Necco out of bankruptcy months earlier, announced it was selling the brands on and closed the Revere plant the same day.
Necco Wafers had been in production since 1847, a 171-year run that ended with no notice at all. In July 2018 the company's new owner announced it was selling the brands to another manufacturer and closing the Revere, Massachusetts plant that same day; the roughly 230 workers were told to come back Friday for their final paychecks. Spangler bought the brand and had wafers back in production by May 2020, out of a plant in Mexico.
