Cause of death
Killed by indifference

Sony

Sony ended production of the last two Vita models after years of withdrawn support and thin sales.

Sony launched the Vita in Japan in December 2011, precisely as phones and tablets were making a dedicated handheld a hard argument to win. The phase-out took most of a decade: first-party games stopped in 2015, physical game cards were retired, and the PS Plus freebies ended. In March 2019 the last two models in production, the PCH-2000 in black and aqua blue, changed status on Sony's Japanese site to 'shipments ended.'
