Washington NFL franchise

The franchise announced on July 13, 2020 that it was retiring the name and logo after FedEx, Nike, PepsiCo and Bank of America lined up against them.

George Preston Marshall renamed the Boston Braves the Redskins in 1933 and moved the team to Washington four years later. Native American groups called the name a slur for decades, and owner Dan Snyder had said the team would never drop it. What protest could not achieve, sponsors did in about a week. The announcement came with no replacement name ready.
