Cause of death
Killed by cost
Made by
Klondike (Unilever)

Klondike dropped it in July 2022 to free manufacturing capacity for higher-volume products after a two-year surge in demand across its portfolio.

The Choco Taco was invented in 1983 by a Jack and Jill Ice Cream employee named Alan Drazen and killed in July 2022 by a spreadsheet. Klondike's stated reason was an unprecedented spike in demand across its portfolio, which is an unusual way to lose a product. A sitting US senator threatened to invoke the Defense Production Act over it, and Reddit's co-founder offered to buy it outright. Klondike says the original is coming back eventually.
