Maintenance costs rose as passenger demand collapsed, and the fleet stopped paying for itself.

Concorde crossed the Atlantic in under three and a half hours for twenty-seven years, and never once made economic sense at scale. Only fourteen entered commercial service, sonic boom restrictions confined it to ocean routes, and the 2000 Air France crash at Gonesse ended the aura of invincibility that justified the fare. Air France and British Airways retired the fleet within months of each other in 2003. No supersonic passenger aircraft has flown commercially since.
