Google discontinued the Chromecast line on 6 August 2024 when it announced the Google TV Streamer.
The Chromecast was an HDMI dongle with no remote and no interface of its own, and Google sold roughly 100 million of them across eleven years and several generations. On 6 August 2024 Google discontinued the entire line in favor of the Google TV Streamer, a 100 dollar set-top box costing twice what the Chromecast it replaced did. The cheapest way to put streaming on a dumb television was retired for a box with a remote.
