Flip Video
Also known as Flip, Flip Mino, Flip UltraHD
- Cause of death
- Killed by one executive
Cisco closed the Flip business on 12 April 2011 as part of a retreat from consumer products, cutting 550 jobs.
The Flip was a pocket camcorder with almost no buttons and a USB plug that flipped out of the case, and it sold well enough that Cisco paid 590 million dollars for its maker in 2009. Two years later Cisco decided it should not be in consumer electronics at all and closed the business on 12 April 2011, eliminating 550 jobs. The product was still a hot seller when it was killed. It was simply owned by the wrong company.
