Ford stopped the Model T so the factories could be retooled for its replacement, the Model A, after demand fell too far to sustain both.

Nineteen years and roughly 15 million cars, at a price that fell from about $850 to as little as $260. By 1927 it was obsolescent technology next to more powerful, more comfortable rivals, and Ford sold fewer than 500,000 cars that year, less than half of Chevrolet's total. Henry and Edsel Ford drove the fifteen-millionth car off the Highland Park line on 26 May 1927, and the Model A arrived in select cities that December.
