Alaska Airlines, which had bought the carrier in 2016, retired the Virgin brand and moved every remaining flight onto Alaska codes.
Virgin America flew its first passengers in August 2007 with purple mood lighting, seat-back food ordering and a following that behaved more like a band's than an airline's. Alaska Air Group bought it in 2016 and then spent two years deciding the brand was not worth the licence. The last flight, VX1948 from San Francisco to Los Angeles on 24 April 2018, was organised as a send-off by three strangers who met on an internet forum.
