Google folded its best ideas into Gmail and retired the app that had them first.

Inbox was Google's attempt to rethink email around bundling, snoozing, and reminders, and it developed the kind of devoted following that a second product inside a company with a dominant first product is not allowed to keep. Google migrated the features it liked into Gmail and shut Inbox down on the same day it closed consumer Google+. Its users are still noticeably bitter about it.
