Apple discontinued the iPod nano on 27 July 2017, leaving the app-capable iPod touch as the only iPod.

The iPod nano arrived in 2005 as a flash-memory sliver that immediately killed the iPod mini, then ran through seven generations including a square one people wore as a wristwatch. Apple last gave it a meaningful update in 2012 and pulled it from the website without a press release on 27 July 2017, offering only a line about "simplifying our iPod lineup." Twelve years, seven redesigns, and one phone in every pocket that already did the job.
