Apple discontinued the iPod touch because the rest of its product line had absorbed the job of carrying your music.

Apple introduced the iPod touch on September 5, 2007 as the iPhone's Multi-Touch interface without the phone, and it went on to outlive every other iPod by years. Apple's own explanation for retiring it was that the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and Mac had absorbed the job, alongside a music library that had grown from 1,000 songs on a hard drive to more than 90 million streamable ones. The last model was still selling at $199 on a 2019 processor when Apple announced on May 10, 2022 that it would be available only while supplies lasted, ending the iPod line 20 years after the first one shipped.
